Me thinks Dad is a little permissive
Yeah, too many cookies. What does he want to eat? Breakfast? Oh no - boy wants cookies. And unfortuantely, he knows both the English and the ASL and he does them both at the same time, mixed with a sweet voice and pouty blue eyes. You say 'no' to him. It's tough work, being this kid's Dada.

Ipanema (just for the hell of it)
Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, each one she passes goes - ah

When she walks, she's like a samba
That swings so cool and sways so gentle
That when she passes, each one she passes goes - ooh

(Ooh) But I watch her so sadly
How can I tell her I love her
Yes I would give my heart gladly
But each day, when she walks to the sea
She looks straight ahead, not at me

Tall, (and) tan, (and) young, (and) lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, I smile - but she doesn't see (doesn't see)
(She just doesn't see, she never sees me,...)

More Free Software!
OpenOffice is like MS Office, excpet you don't have to steal it, because it's free. Remember this next time your boss complains to you about budget, but you go back to use expensive MS Word on your Windows computer. Nice priorities, boss!

ICANN stands up to VeriSign story
In a move that has great relevence to everyone on the web, but will get almost no attention, ICANN actually shows a spine. Let's hope they follow through

Excellent Commentary in the NYT
Paints a pretty bleak picture for the country and what Bush has wrought. The bright side to this Plame case is that it's exposing more Americans to just how horrible the Bush administration is. I think Poll numbers are going to go down again as the public digests this latest scandal. How can these people continue to disparage the patriotism of liberals when neo-cons are exposing the covert identities of CIA operatives overseas?

Bush's fall guy: Lewis Libby?
Libby is Cheney's Chief of Staff, and looks to be groomed well for the volcano.

John Dean's take on Plame case
Salon.com | More vicious than Tricky Dick
"Bush's people have out-Nixoned Nixon's people." Dean has been easily the most forthcoming of all the characters in Nixon's West Wing, and has the sort of unique perspective on politics that always grabs my attention. The main thrust of this article is urging Plame & Wilson to sue in order to take advantage of the Discovery that would then be allowed. "If the Bush White House is anything like the Nixon White House -- and there is increasing evidence of the similarities -- it will respond to such a lawsuit like a stuck pig."

Bush's new polls
Are these numbers good for us or bad? How can 63% think this guy has strong leadership skills? Huh? grr.

Sex story from Wednesday
Salon's Wednesday Sex Column exposes the truly sad life of the author. I feel deeply, deeply sorry, in a sensitive guy, compassionate sort of way, for any author who could honestly pen this quote:
"No one loses control, loses track of where they are, forgets that music is playing, screams, or weeps, when someone performs oral sex on them."

Doesn't that just make you want to cry? This was in yesterday's edition, and today they have letters about the column.

Somedays you love the girl from Ipanema. Sometimes you are the girl from Ipanema.

Free Software
CinePaint is an open source image manipulator, like Adobe Photoshop, but you know... free. And perhaps more powerful. Speaking of getting legal, fee, quality open-source software, you probably still have to go get Mozilla, so go there and grab that gem, too. My browser of choice is Firebird, which is a leaner version of Mozilla. And as it happens, Blogger is an excellent blogging suite that I use to put this page together for free, and it's open-source, too.

Plame Case spin
Bush is already pointing down the ladder and loudly distancing himself from this obvious viloation of the law. current story They are simultaneously pointing down the chain of command and trying to make the criminal charges (pending) weaker by saying it wasn't that big of a deal (because she was only an "analyst"). If you were looking for the brave little right-wing nut to jump on the grenade in the West Wing, don't expect that guy to be W. He is not that kind of strong leader. He's the guy who covers his own bushy butt first. And I'm not expecting any honesty of prior knowledge from any cabinet members either, but I can't believe something like that happens without those guys being involved in the decision.

From Tom Tomorrow's blog:
"All I know is, anyone who does not vociferously denounce this leak is clearly objectively pro-treason."

Pope News
Pope Health Failing (washingtonpost.com) This is just macabre. Take one of the most important individual positions of power and influence in the world, then hold on to hilariously outdated notions of life appointments (anyone here seen the Enlightenment? Yeah, I'm looking for a lost period of history? Called The Enlightenment? Come on you guys, it lasted almost a hundred years?) and we have the world press running reports of wild specualtion at to how long till this guy croaks. It's bizarre. I suspect the same crap will go on when the British Monarchy passes as well. Both institutuions are based upon the same model, which was discredited 230 years ago. Hopefully the next Pope will be Pope Caligula, so far to the right that millions of Catholics will finally see what a crazy institution this is and leave.

Whew, only 43.6 million people
That's the number of People Lacking Health Insurance in the United States. If it were more than that, then we might have to start doing something about it.

In the ongoing CIA operative's life for political gain saga
My prediction is that by tomorrow, the White House will have spat out someone's executive assistant as their fall guy. "Oh Yeah, it was intern Jimmy... who runs off copies and makes coffee? Yeah... umm... sometimes he disributes mail, too. Yeah. It was Jimmy who contacted six Washington Journalists and outted her. The President and Karl Rove had nothing to do with it." Poor, stupid Jimmy. He'll go to jail for Senior family members' foibles. Gotta pick someone who's dumb and devoted to the cause.

New LOTRROTK trailer is out!
You're a geek if you know the acronym, and if you do, you know you want to go here and pick it up.

Novak "defends" leak
Conservative swine peddler Robert Novak is the journalist who eventually exposed the identity of the American Spy, putting her life in jeapardy, In response to questions about putting that information in his column, Novak said, "I made the judgment it was newsworthy. I think the story has to stand for itself. It's 100 percent accurate. I'm not going to get into why I wrote something." So he's not going to "get into" how much weight he gave to the the personal threat to the spy and the potential that what he was doing was committing treason. You know, weighed against the Bush Administration's political benefits.

Scandal getting bigger
On the same topic of the White House Scandal I mentioned yesterday, there is this NYTimes story. It refers to this Washington Post story which includes this paragraph:
Novak attributed his account to "two senior administration officials." An administration aide told The Post on Saturday that the two White House officials had cold-called at least six Washington journalists and identified Wilson's wife.

Test
Shut up about the lameness and admit you want to take the Dante's Inferno Test. Your faithful blogger here goes to the sixth level, with the heretics. ;-] Cool. The heretics are fun. The other level I scored highly on (pun very much intended) was Level 2, with the rest of the Lustful. What a great place to spend eternity. Surrounded by the Lustful. Yeah, Christianity is going to have to come up with better threats.

This just strikes me as hilarious
NEWS.com.au | Girl, 5, makes bong in class (September 29, 2003)
Oh the shock and horror! HAHAHAHA. This just has me rolling. Freakin' fantastic. This girl is way ahead of the game and can actually put a framed copy of this article on her wall when she goes off to college. Engineering student or what?

The Administration
Well, the Neo-Cons have gone ol' School Nixon on us. Perhaps this story won't go anywhere. Perhaps even if there is some finding that elements of the Bush Administration compromised the identiry and safety of a CIA operative to elicit Political revenge on that person's family, that John Ashcroft will kill any pursuit of it around the West Wing. But if the suspicions find guilt anywhere on high, this could finally tank these people. I hope this blows up like Watergate. Hell, I'd be okay with this blowing up to the level of fellatio-gate.TIME.com: article
